Hooray! We made it to the end of another school year! Portfolios and year-end reports and evaluations are in (if required by our state) and we moms are ready for some rest and family fun!
Many retreat centers are now offering camps specifically for homeschool families! Family camp is a great way to unplug from the distractions at home, get rejuvenated, grow closer as a family and to God, and meet other like-minded families.
One of my first experiences at a family-style camp was at the christian camp Word-of-Life in upstate NY. The camp is situated on a picturesque lake and the staff make you feel like you're family from the moment you walk in. Typically camps are one week, and a schedule of planned activities is available should you choose to participate or take the day off to rest. There are speaker sessions for adults while the children are at a kids program, amazing worship, boat rides, free time to use their facilities (pool, jet-skis, swimming in the lake, horse-back-riding) and more! One of my favorite aspects was unplugging from my routine to enjoy God's creation and the delicious home-style buffet meals (that I didn't have to cook) on the balcony overlooking the serene lake.
If you're looking to get away this summer, create new memories or traditions for your family, meet new friends, and grow in your relationship with God and eachother, family camps are a wonderful way to do that!
